When we discussed Indigenous feminisms, one of the common themes was Indigenous erasure, most specifically in the presentation of American history. This has serious implications, as we learned in Maile Arvin, Eve Tuck and Angie Morrill’s “Decolonizing Feminism.” Write a complete 2-3 page open letter to history teachers today that does the following: (a) discusses settler colonialism and its implications, based on Arvin, Tuck and Morill and the various resources we used to ground our discussions of settler colonialism, the Dakota Access Pipeline and the Land Back Movement and (b) details at least two implications for how they should teach (or have taught) American history.
