In this Teach-in (the link to the recoding is posted below) three CUNY professors and members of the Professional Staff Congress (PSC) union– Professor Chris Santiago from our department, graduate student and professor Marc Kagan, and Professor Arena–give presentations on why professors need to strike at CUNY, the challenges and obstacles to conducting a strike, and how a successful strike at CUNY could be carried out. Questions: What sector of professors at CSI and CUNY does Professor Santiago say are especially treated poorly? What does Professor Kagan, the second speaker, say about the legality of strikes by CUNY workers? What does Professor Arena say about the kind of demands that the professors and their union should strike over? Are any of the issues discussed by the speakers relevant to any issue/concept we have dealt with in class?
The moderator of the event is Professor Mark Lewis, who is the first voice you hear.
